Preparing for Surgery
General guidelines
- Discuss any medications you are currently taking with your surgeon and/or anaesthetist You will need to cease anti-inflammatory medications one week prior to surgery
- Report any recent infections or skin scratches, lesions or infections with your surgeon. Surgery cannot be performed if any infection is present
- If you smoke, ideally you would cease 6 weeks prior to surgery. However, any minimization of smoking is beneficial. You might need to see your GP to assist you with this goal
Preoperative guidelines prior to joint replacement surgery
- You will need to attend a pre-admission clinic prior to your surgery
- Please attend any pathology and x-rays as directed in a timely manner
